HorseFixer 2,013 #1 Posted November 4, 2009 Has anyone repaired Hydraulic Cylinder on a C-120? It looks welded on both ends and does not look like it comes apart. It looks like its leaking around the Chrome Cyl Rod. Is there a seal that can be replaced around that rod? :scratchead:
HorseFixer 2,013 #2 Posted November 4, 2009 Does anyone have any info? :scratchead:
C-Series14 15 #3 Posted November 4, 2009 There is a manual for repair of the hydraulic lift valve and cylinder, I have one. It shows the three types of cylinders. The welded one should have a snap ring holding the rod guide bushing in the cylinder. Only the GT-14, 18hp Auto, and the D-Series cylinders are not repairable. chazm 413 #6 Posted November 5, 2009 Duke - all hyd. cylinders have a seal for the rod & piston assy. If yours is welded together - sounds like a job for a Hyd. shop to rebuild, if they can But ,if they are like the ones around here - they'll try to sell ya a new one for $$$$$$$$$ Chaz :hide:

Indy w h 5 #14 Posted November 6, 2009 Hey duke I don't think the welded cylinders are rebuildable. Indy
Sarge 3,464 #15 Posted November 6, 2009 The cylinder can be fixed but it has to be put into a lathe , rebuilt and re-welded very carefully. Not fun...and expensive. Sarge
mack1605 8 #16 Posted November 6, 2009 take it to a hydro shop mine was cut open ,rod polished replaced the seals and welded back up works great and no leaks
CasualObserver 3,410 #17 Posted November 6, 2009 Or watch flea-bay and pick up a used rebuild-able one. I read in a manual or service bulletin (can't find it now....) that the original #6618 cylinders were not meant to be rebuild-able, but the replacement #105254 cylinders were. Edit: Found it... Service Bulletin #177....
HorseFixer 2,013 #18 Posted November 6, 2009  Jason and everyone else that assisted in this... Well looks like I will have to find a donor Cylinder Its not leaking that bad like all over but it does leave a spot on the floor. Ill just throw a rag or put a pan w/some kitty litter in it for the time being till I find a cylinder. :notworthy:
KyBlue 655 #19 Posted November 6, 2009 Duke, a Hyd. shop should be able to rebuild it.. I have taken welded cylinders to a local place in the past and they ahve rebuilt them, course now they were larger ones....off a dozer but it can be done.
billyban1 0 #20 Posted November 6, 2009 I rebuilt my C-160 cylinder, but you need a lathe and a good welder. I chucked the cylinder housing in a lathe and use a narrow cutting tool to cut thru the factory weld. $5 worth of o-rings and welded it back together. That's been about 5 years ago and it still holding.
