Confused99 2 #1 Posted November 3, 2009 Like the title says, what is the smallest frame tractor Wheel Horse made? Has to be front engine. The reason I ask is my 6 year old helped me pick up leaves yesterday and drove my Raider with the cart attached. The tractor was idling and I ran the clutch. She told me she would like her "own" Wheel Horse. I don't think I could have had a bigger smile on my face when she said that . So, in the next couple years I would like to find her one for "us" to fix up but want a small one. I did ask what color she wanted to paint it and she said purple so I might have to work on her a little. I also might have some trouble talking Mom into the idea If anyone has one for sale I am not apposed to picking one up any time but am in no rush right now. Sarge 3,465 #2 Posted November 3, 2009 Front engine-Lawn Ranger .... Just about the right size for kids too... Sarge
Raider12puller 1 #3 Posted November 3, 2009 Why not just put extensions on the pedals? Then you could change the extension size as she grows :hide:
Kelly 1,033 #4 Posted November 3, 2009 Any short frame tractor, including all the round hoods (the rangers are the same frame just smaller tires) I just picked up a ranger with a very nice hand brake/clutch that would work perfect for shorter people/kids I got it for my wife. Coadster32 793 #5 Posted November 3, 2009 Could you post a pic of the hand brake assy. on that ranger for us (me). It seems like a good idea, just don't know if my kid will try to drive with one hand though. (when the time comes)
W9JAB 156 #6 Posted November 3, 2009 Didyou see this one, looks good! I have a Lawn Ranger for sale. Price is $100.00. Great shape http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=13284
Confused99 2 #7 Posted November 3, 2009 I was thinking lawn ranger too. I would probably still have to do the pedal extensions but that isn't a problem. I did see the one posted yesterday for sale and that would be perfect except it is in Indy and I am not heading that direction any time soon. Thanks for the replies, Jason

CasualObserver 3,411 #9 Posted November 3, 2009 Instead of pedal extensions, you could move the pedal back like Nick did on this one. He built this for his 8 year old nephew (who wanted it painted that way, so don't blame Nick!) Added foot boards for safety and moved the pedal back to a kid friendly distance. Maybe he'll see this and add any more details about what was involved.
Kelly 1,033 #10 Posted November 4, 2009 Here is a pic of the hand brake/clutch I can get a better one if you need it, the way it was done you can still use the foot pedal, a short piece of chain was used, so it would not bind, even has a parking brake built in, this is a very nice set up. can whlvr 994 #11 Posted November 4, 2009 my 10 year old neice likes to drive my c160 auto, she can reach the control lever easier than the clutch on the 8 speeds, and i dont have to cringe when she would grind the gears
joebob 45 #12 Posted November 4, 2009 Jason I have a couple rangers here just north about 10 miles of where you picked up the D so dont worry about finding one! I picked them for my nephew to run around on but he's big enough to run the big ones now and there three of them so it woundn't hurt one bit to let one go, you just might have to find a good engine for it. anyways I can help you out when your ready. WheelHorse_of_course 99 #14 Posted November 4, 2009 Well, at least in our family you had to grow your legs long enough before you got to drive! . One of the reasons I bought the "854" was because it had a manual transmission with the single brake/clutch pedal. annyway.... I am glad she is enjoying it :scratchead:
beeman 0 #15 Posted November 4, 2009 for my grand daughter i put running boards off narrow frame cub cadet on her massey ferguson to protect her legs it's a easy add on. added blocks to pedels. took them off when she old grew them. she drove it from 5 to 10 years age. don't let them drive show tractors. freshly painted tractor in to brand new truck. yellow and red don't mix.
