scifi4all 6 #1 Posted November 2, 2009 :hide: As stated below, the only Horse I have is the '73 12HP Kohler 8 speed. If I want to get another tractor I am not sure which it should be. Here are my/our needs (my wife voiced only one wish): She is 5'10" tall, all legs, and is not comfortable driving my current tractor. So an adjustable seat is a must. I don't know if a more adjustable seat will make a difference for her, but I won't hate it either. I would like one a little newer, say '90's and up. Hydro, never had one but I would think it would be nice to use when mowing. I use the current tractor to plow, snow blow, and mow. I love it! (Soon I will have a Mackissic Chipper /Shredder mounted on the front, as soon as I am done restoring it, pictures will be coming soon). But a little more power is not a bad thing. In the future I may want to do some rototilling. I am aware of some of the issues with the Onan's. This doesn't mean I am againist them, I just know I like my Kohler alot. I am hoping with this vast knowledge base you all might be able to help narrow down my selection. Feel free to ask any questions if there is something I am not considering. :scratchead:
Jim_M 179 #2 Posted November 2, 2009 Here's my 2 cents....416-H or 520-H, I own both but I like the 416 a little better. If you can find one a 314-H is another good option and it would have a Kohler engine.
Raider12puller 1 #3 Posted November 2, 2009 312-A or 417-A or 418-A. Just a few more options. Hydros are definitely nice for mowing lawns and snowblowing.
scifi4all 6 #4 Posted November 2, 2009 Thanks guys. I thought I might get a greater response to my question. But, you two must have narrowed it down greatly. Now I have an idea where to start. :scratchead:
whfan74 2,071 #5 Posted November 2, 2009 I agree with the other two. Those would be great machines and very user friendly for your wife to use as well. Would love to have a newer hydro myself!
can whlvr 994 #6 Posted November 2, 2009 if you want to go 90 or newer you are limiting the feild alot,as already stated,314,416,520 are all great machines,i have a 414 8 speed and there is lots of leg room, dont forget you could put a newer adjustable seat on what ever u purchase. scifi4all 6 #7 Posted November 3, 2009 :scratchead: I know I am limiting the field to only the last 17 years, I was hoping that i might be able to find a one in pretty great shape compared to a restore. I do agree I have thought about a newer seat on whatever I get. I know nothing about working on a hydro trans, but I am always willing to learn. I like my 8-speed, I've never owned an automatic car or truck, but not having to stop to change speed would be nice.
