snow/dirt plow modification

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or does anyone else think the 42" snow/plow is just a beast to lift if you have a mechanical lift. I use my C100 for snow plowing and moving dirt as well it works great but after an hour I feel like I have been beat to death. today I modified the plow slightly I put two light duty springs on the front section of the frame down to the plow. I used the holes already in the frame and had to drill a small hole in the frame of the plow. It works GREAT!!! It probably cuts the lift weight in half or more I don't know how it will affect the snow plowing yet but I did a little grading and it seemed to not cause any problems. my driveway is stone so I can't use a lot of pressure to remove the snow anyway. has anyone done this before and how were the results

I don't think so I have done a lot of checking for binding or friction I think it has to do with posabaly the lift rod being the wrong length or just the fact it is heavy and it lifts from behind the center of gravity I don't know but the springs really help thanks :scratchead:

I feel your pain. It is a beast to lift without the hydro. With all the weight being in front and lifting from the middle of the frame, it does get heavy. At times I had to use both hands to lift it. (I'm a pretty small guy)

I know that there are some people here who have attached winches to the front of their tractor to assist, (eliminate), you lifting the plow. I also think there is a guy on "the bay" that sells an attachment for it too.

Check to make sure you have all the lift links and chain in the right holes. My manual is out in the shop right now so I cant tell you witch holes to use.

The lift on mine has a L shaped lift rod (not the chain) and I had it in the hole closest to the rear of the tractor as was told to me by my WH mechanic but I have tried all 3 holes and different hight adjustments it works fine it just seems heavier than it should be. I would like to know the right way to have it attached because I know it will put less stress on the tractor, plow, and me. but the sprigs really help in the mean time thanks for your help.
