Duff 206 #1 Posted October 31, 2009 I was driving down to my Mom's this afternoon and went by a place where a guy buys junk cars, trucks and just about anything else with a motor on/in it and gets them running again. As I was passing I spotted a ZTR mower that I could have sworn said "Wheel Horse" on it. Almost got rear-ended by a logging truck slowing down to stare at it. Anyway, on the way back through I was able to get a little better look, but still couldn't get stopped in traffic (the guy's got a terrible location in terms of access!). I was able to make out that it is a maroon striper with 724Z on the front decal. Looks a little rough but I've seen a lot worse. Thing is, I didn't know Wheel Horse ever made a ZTR machine before Toro took over, but being a maroon stripe junkie I'm interested. Can anyone tell me anything about these machines? Anybody here got one? (Or was I hallucinating.....) Thanks! Duff :scratchead:
Sparky-(Admin) 23,136 #2 Posted October 31, 2009 Yer eyes are good Duff. I think it was made in the late 80's or early 90's. One of my Maroon stripe brouchures has it pictured. Mike.......
Nick 13 #3 Posted October 31, 2009 Wheel Horse got their first Z mowers from Dixie Chopper and then wheel Horse started building the 724- 24 hp Onan with chain drive and 50" and 60" deck options. They were very popular around this area until Toro upgraded the 724 to the 222 direct drive but then purchased Exmark to use that design. The 724 is a nice mower but can need some work if the chain drive is needing repair.
