New Trailer Project

Recommended Posts

It's not like I need another project... It's just sometimes these things turn up :scratchead:

While driving around the farm (on a 'orse of course) a while back I spotted something that looked "trailer like" hidden away behind some old block work at the edge of one of the fields.

Hit the brakes, jump off and have a good look..

Yep, it's a trailer alright.. Looked like it had been dumped there..

A quick chat with the farmers son confirmed that yes it had been dumped, and yes I was welcome to it.

So home it came :ychain:

A few days later the trailer was dragged into the Workshack for what was going to be a quick make-over.

You know the sort of thing, replace the wood and maybe a bit of angle iron, a quick wire brush and coat of paint.

First to come off was the lights.. can you spot where they are now? :hide:

Next to come off was the wood.

This is where Garry used the "gentle touch" method :ychain:

As you can see it was not just the wood that came off, the frame was very rotten as well :ychain:

Nowt for it but to break out the plasma cutter and cut off the useful/saveble bits.

After a brief period of :scratchead: ing wondering what to do with what was left of the trailer, and a quick bit of measuring, it was found the chassis from my old 6x6x6 TD project was just the right width :hide:

Mud guards as modeled by Garry.

A couple of days later I cut all the unwanted cross members off the chassis, chucked the parts in a pile.. And left it all alone for a few weeks.

A bit more progress has been made with the axle and draw bar getting welded on..

But no photo's of that as i didn't take any.

But as the trailer had got to the point where it could be "tow" tested behind a WH, the testing had to be done.

This should give you an idea of our moods testing day :ychain:

Oh.. Did I mention the testing was Speed, handling and comfort testing..

These are the "after testing" photo's :ychain:

That's all so far. Im not in any rush with this trailer project so progress may be slow.

Ian,

I always look forward to your posts to see what you are working on. Not only that but your sense of humor keeps us all smiling! :scratchead:

It looks as though you aren't too far off from having a nice looking trailer that will be very functional.

Keep us updated!
