1057 1st test run

Recommended Posts

I got my fuel pump, so I'm anxcious to give her a test run. BUT I've never drove it. So what levers or pedals do what? I noticed on the R side (as if sitting in seat) there is no pedals. just two shafts sticking out. I hope there is nothing missing to prevent me from taking her around the block! What does the little lever between my legs do? How does power get to trans. Clutch? where is the control to do this? How to change gears etc... I'm like a kid at Christmas ( a kite & no wind) Got the jitters & dont want to hurt something, me nor the horse. Thanks for any help.

The pedal on the left side is both the brake and clutch. The 2 shafts on the right side are to hold the running board or footrest (not sure which one your tractor should have).

The lever between your legs should be the shifter. You have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear and reverse. Forward and to the left is 3rd. Forward and to the right is 2nd gear. Pull it back towards you and to the right is 1st. To the left is reverse.

Power gets to the tranny thru a belt which is made loose or tight by the pedal on the left. Push the pedal down and pick any gear and let it out slowly and yer off! Theres no need to shift up and down thru the gears like you would in a manual shift car. First is slow but torquey and third is fast with less torque but dont be fooled, dumping the clutch in third with the throttle up will get the front wheels off the ground and maybe even flip the tractor over. You sound like a rookie ( no offence) so get used to the lower gears first before attempting any third gear starts.

Have fun and be sure to report back :scratchead: !

Thanks Sparky! I had to quit riding& get dinner. I couldn't wait, so I figured it out. & the 3rd gear wheelies too! I hated to come in, from riding around! Now I know why ya'll have lights. I could go all night! The 10 ph kohler seems to have more torque than the newer 15ph twin on the other hydrostatic tractor I inherited. & that 1st gear will come in handy for tugin stuff, or hay rides. The exhaust even seems to be a complete burn, fumes dont seem to be offensive. (Not that I'm going to be running indoors.) I'm so amped!! Thanks again! Ya hoo!!!
