dunk50 6 #1 Posted October 21, 2009 Friend just called me and gave me a tractor. Went to look at it and it has the hood of a 314-8 . I checked the ser.# on Toro site and it comes up a C-160. Any ideas. The number on the plate and it appears to be original is 71-16KS01 - 1246 Motor has been replaced but it currently has a Kohler 14HP Spec 60424 K321S Will try to get some photos up later. MikesRJ 558 #2 Posted October 21, 2009 A picture would be mighty helpful. But the model number comes to: 71-16KS01 1977 C Series Garden Tractor C-160 Automatic Engine: Kohler K341S-71128A 16 HP Transmission: Sundstrand 90-1140
truckin88 104 #3 Posted October 21, 2009 that is a C series hood, but on close inspection of pics I can see they installed the wrong decal, a 314 would look similar to the machine in my avatar....commonly refered to as a maroon stripe.. That you have there is a C....a damn good tractor
MikesRJ 558 #4 Posted October 21, 2009 I agree, definitely a C-160 with wrong hood decals. I say clean her up and get new decals when you start thinking about restoring it. New decals can be had here: http://cgi.ebay.com/WHEEL-HORSE-C-160-AUTO...=item3ef64b3b3e or Here: http://www.redoyourhorse.com/servlet/the-8...C-DECALS/Detail
dunk50 6 #5 Posted October 21, 2009 Well now that does present a problem. I had bought a 418A that had a blown motor. I was going to take this 14hp Kohler off the 314-8 (C-160)to put in it. The closer I looked at the 324-8 (C-160) the more I think the 160 is in better shape than the 418. Maybe I should use the 428 for parts? He said the 14HPKohler he put on new but several years ago. It's been sitting for a few years. The deck is a 42" rear discharge and seems to be in really good shape.
MikesRJ 558 #6 Posted October 21, 2009 My choice, I'd restore the '77 C-160, but that's just me......... Perhaps a Horsen-stein!
