lorenzo 0 #1 Posted Thursday at 09:28 PM just got an electro 12 that has been sitting for a while, jumped the battery to get it started but the battery is not charging. only showing 12 volts at the battery and the voltage goes down the longer that its running. should I be seeing a higher voltage coming back to the battery? Thanks
CasaytheMann 278 #2 Posted Thursday at 09:55 PM With the engine running you should see 13-14 volts. But I am not a mechanic.
lorenzo 0 #3 Posted Thursday at 10:39 PM correct, but I'm showing only 12v at 1/2 throttle. My owners manual wiring diagram shows only a rectifier, no regulator. I don't know how to test a rectifier. It shows an orange wire coming from the key switch, but doesn't show the color of the other 2 coming out of the rectifier. The tractor runs fine until the battery voltage drops down, the motor quits and needs jumped to start again. Thanks
953 nut 69,662 #4 Posted Thursday at 10:53 PM A dead battery will not charge from the engine. Charge the battery and have it load tested at an auto parts store, they will di it for free.
ebinmaine 80,823 #5 Posted Thursday at 10:55 PM Very important thing to remember in these. The electrical systems are DC. Direct. Current. Bad ground is a bad circuit. Clean the mounting points of ALL components of the charging system. The Voltage Regulator must have good clean ground. 1

A lot of us add a new ground wire from the battery negative terminal to one of the rectifier mounting bolts. This is better than grounding thru painted sheet metal... 1

Until they come up with grounding by Bluetooth, I'll still use another cable. Or, you could be a fancy hero and run it to the nut side hidden away!! Besides, it just might catch your lost 3/8 socket (no 10mm joke here).. Edited 16 hours ago by ri702bill 1
ebinmaine 80,823 #9 Posted 16 hours ago I do similar. When I build a new wiring harness, most of the components get their own separate ground wire of correct gauge.
pfrederi 21,209 #10 Posted 10 hours ago The other two wires coming from the rectfier/regulator are probably white and come from the engine. Unplug them from the regulator with the engine runnIng at 2/3 throttle or better test for AC voltage AC between the two of them. Should be around 30 volts AC

Should be around 30 volts AC now I have to figure out how to get to it so I can unplug it and check the voltage. Thanks
