:text-welcomeconfetti:

You've just come to the most helpful Wheel Horse forum around.

The choke and throttle levers and tread plate foot rest are found on the 1960 Suburban 400 or 550.

The 400 would originally have a Kohler K91 4hp engine and the 550 would have a Tecumseh 5hp engine.

The side of your engine looks like a Tecumseh with a starter. The on the 1960 model 550 the battery would have been under the seat.

Very nice looking tractor. Rear fenders were an option.  The missing belt guard helps slack the belt when using the clutch. They may have made some heavy wire fingers to help with clutching since it doesn't have the guard.

That tractor would have what we call the 3 piece transmission which has a cast iron center section and flat steel side plates.

The rear wheel rims look black like the rear axle seals may be leaking.  These transmission are not hard to replace seals, and possible axle bushings

And it has the period correct cutting deck... looks to be a 36" model, not a 32"?

I would say that engine is original. Can't see anyone ever replacing a Kohler with a Tecky! :)

Orginal 550 gets my vote. Pretty much all there too. A real find in this area. Wonder how that ever made it to France.

Didn’t you read Straight From The Horse’s Mouth?  Lots of round hoods went to Spain for small scale farming.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

I did but also read where most got trashed ( RJs) from bouncing on the front end while plowing. That's when they came out with tombstones and suburban axles and 701s.
