Replacing 312-8 V and flat pulleys

Recommended Posts

Darek

Need some assistance please!  I am trying to replace these pulleys pictured and what happening is once they and the two spacers are put on the shaft there are not enough threads left to put the shroud and nut back on.  It looks to me like part of the race from the V pulley is still on the shaft thus taking up space causing my issue.  The race is possibly fused to it as it almost looks like its supposed to be that way.  What would be the best way to rectify this?  TIA.

You are correct that race should not be there, may need to cut it and split it to get it off

Or, you may get lucky by heating the race and then attempting to remove it with proper sized Vise Grips. A small amount of penetrating oil on the shaft helps, but keep it away from the area where you grip it.

When you put the pullies and spacers be sure they are in the correct order

Some well placed heat would be my first choice, if not successful, then cutting would be my next choice.

Penetrating oil and a few well-placed hits with a cold chisel to expand the race metal will probably break it loose.

Heat or Dremel other possibilities.

Heat and vise grips worked!  Thank you. I got the new pulleys on and I am having the same *%#! issue where as soon as I drive into grass I see the blades slow way down from when I was on pavement and there is nothing coming out the side discharge.  The grass is not very high. It seems whenever the blades encounter any resistance they slow way down.

Need to figure out where the slippage is.  Tighten the mule belt, and if that makes no diff take up a thread or two on the PTO clutch rod.

Yes I have gone back and forth with both of those. Is it possible for it to be the belt?  It’s probably original.

Could be but first I would take a loo\k at the blades to be sure they are not upside down which would mean the dull edge would be attempting to cut the grass.
