Belt Woes

Recommended Posts

WHX??

Still working on the neighbor's Ariens GT-20. Deck is run off the front PTO via 2 v belts to a jack shaft that runs through the front axle to a drive shaft that spins the deck.

IPL call for two 4L-34s. Found this place https://www.gprindustrial.com/en/ that offers the belt with the Ariens part number for a really good price.

Hind sight now I shoulda just went to TSC but right to my door for two?

So the order arrives and of course they sent 5L-34s.

So after many unanswered emails & phone calls I finally get a response.

They are trying to tell me these are the correct belts.

So I sent them these pics pretty much says it all right? Quite clear the pullies are for 4L belts right?

Be interesting to see what their response will be.

Buy local when possible. Usually worth it most of the time when you add in shipping and aggravation. Yup Napa crosses to a 4l340.

Their info is only as good as the person who entered it

Ain't that the truth. Only as good as the person who cares to enter it... And a dyslexic parts counter person is in the wrong profession!

Would absolutely love to but when the nearest place is 40 miles away and the price of diesel???

I guess belts are not the thing to buy online no matter how good a deal. Worse part is I kinda knew this. :angry-banghead:

Napa and TSC are 40 miles away? You live on top of a volcano or sonethin? :teasing-poke:

If you knew the IPL said 4L34, why not just order those and not give the guys at the belt place the OE #  with the chance to screw it up?

I looked them up. That's a round trip distance.

The closest Napa I found was in Ripton, roughly 20 miles from Princeton.  The nearest TSC is in Berlin, about 17 miles away.

Gzzzzz uncle Jim, everyone has a couple 4L340 belts laying around. :D

Now you got to get something that uses 5L340 belts!

I have been getting my belts from Amazon. A little more but returns are easy.

My TSC store belt selection stinks, have to call ahead and tell them go look please cause lots of time there is stock showing but no stock. I have noticed they stopped carrying the longer ones.

RK has a nice belt assortment but it too is 30 miles one way.

I am sure with your calculated attitude the "Air in thems"  with purr like a Rolex someday.

Or maybe like a rolodex? :ychain:

No vulcanos in Wisconsin !!  The glaciers are gone now.  All that's left...beer, cheese, sausage, gorgous landscapes, friendly people and lots of places to stop and enjoy all of it.  :occasion-xmas: :orcs-cheers:

I’m finding this thread interesting.  Many years ago my family was a good sized Ariens (along with W/H).  We sold a lot of Ariens GTs (since they bought them from New Holland) and a few front PTO belt sets.  So I was wondering why is getting these belts is so difficult now and I did a quick look and can see why this is such a struggle.  My first thought was why not just get OEM ones, but I see that’s not possible and I’m very surprised that Ariens doesn’t offer them!  Anyways, these used to come as a matched set.  Like others, Ariens was famous for making their belts an odd size or different taper so you had to buy their belts. :angry-tappingfoot:

Yep and and all the NAPA counter guys like you ... hire the handicap...  fun to watch... didn't you tell me how inadept your local NAPA was staffed your self included?:ychain:

I will not go to NAPA for diddly squat after the $27 for a $8 Briggs oil filter ... they are done.

Correct sir ... but see above ...  and TSC says they have it but don't .. there's  some gas and hours off my life I'll never get back.

I mistakenly put my trust in what they knew Mike. That and they had  the correct Part no. listed. Obviously they didn't have the correct part number to the required part ... OK it happens in this computerized day.

Really C?

This actually was a good bigger sized GT in the day. Parts now forget it tho. Had bells & whistles till no end ... front & rear PTOs a nice pretty leak proof HY system & power steering to boot. I just miss the old days I guess.

There you go again. Trusting a flunky to do a man's work!  :ychain: Sure they can put hands on, but who says the right belt is in the package!

I look up everything and check inventory. Even then you can't trust that it's accurate and they can even find it. When I was a counter guy, we had ONE SPOT where we would put special order parts or saved items. This store here now. every time I order something and go to pick it up, they have to go wandering around looking for it. Never in the same place.
