856 starter gen Main Bolt.. advice

Evening,

 

attempted to remove 856 starter generator to bench test it but didn’t know there was a very difficult to reach bolt in the middle underneath it, securing it to tractor engine. Any advice how to best reach and loosen it? Couldn’t get a very good picture being outside in dark but it’s directly middle holding it on. 

I believe it is # 14 bracket bolts from Pfrederi”s diagram from a different post.

That bolt isn't that hard to access. You already have the hood open and the belt guard off, at that point it is practically out in the open.

 

Sight unseen I would suspect the real problem is your tooling.

Maybe it’s different bolt I’m thinking of.. this one had bracket blocking easy access to it.  But only looked at it quickly in the dark with phone flashlight. Will have to look better in daytime

All you need to remove is #14.  Goes through the Gen body then the mount then the gen body on the other side  The mount itself #13 stays on the engine

I figured that out the hard way today before I read your note haha.. but thank you for the advice and helpful info.

The long bolt should have been out in the open.

 

The S/G unit has to be off to be able to remove that bracket.

Didn’t see the long bolt at night.. found out today when I attempted to remove long bolt .. I had to remove both the 1 inch long nuts on the bolt.. screw? And turn one end loose to get one side S/G off then tighten and loosen other end to get that side S/G off.. took about 30 minutes of hand tightening loosening to do so. Didn’t realize the S/G weighed so much till had to hold one end up while loosening other side
