Local mower shop hauled this one in.

Owner claimed he just changed the oil, started mowing and it died, wouldn’t turn over.

Shop owner put it on the lift, then exclaimed. OH $&17!!!

That'll do it.  Did he even put oil back in it??? I'd expect a bigger mess if he did.  Good parts rig for someone.

Yup.  I changed the oil on my MF GC1720 today.  Bit of an access wrassle to get something to turn the oil filter.  Got the new filter on and was just about ready to start pouring the new oil I,  when I remembered I had not put the drain plug back in yet.

 

Caught it in time, though.

Fellow I worked with years ago drained the oil on his Cummings powered Dodge when he got called away to work some overtime. The next morning he dumped three gallons of Mobil One into the engine, about half of it went into the drain pan still in place under the truck, the rest was on the floor.

Ok, I admit incomplete knowledge, so please school me on why a machine freshly filled with oil and not having its filter iin place didn’t spew oil out the side of the machine. Is the filter only in the pickup side of the oil circulation?

So we don’t really know if there was no oil (i.e. none to spew) or that the no-filter had it sucking air instead of oil.

Typically the order of flow through a pressurized oil system is pump, filter, crank bearings, cam bearings, lifters/valve train, and then back to the pan.

 

If the engine was started, with oil in it, it would be EVERYWHERE.
