Rowjr70 0 #1 Posted 2 hours ago I have a 1984 work horse GT-1800. It has the Eaton 1100 hydro unit. The prior owner has cracked the hydro filter base and repaired it with JB Weld. While changing the filter and fluid I must have broken the JB Weld which has caused a substantial hydro fluid leak. I would like to fix it by replacing the filter base. My local dealer would like a ridiculous amount of money to do this for me. Looking at the parts manual it appears to only be 2 bolts holding the filter base in place. Is replacing the filter base as simple as removing the 2 bolts and putting a new one on? I would appreciate any insight you could provide to help me with changing this out. Handy Don 17,339 #2 Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Yes, it is two bolts holding the base. Also two fittings for the inlet and outlet oil lines. Both lines (on our tractor) are metal tubing so you cannot count on much movement. If I were to tackle this, I’d remove the seat, fender, left rear tire, the fuel tank, and any other bits in the way to get easier access. Lastly, remember that the oil in this system circulates in the hydro pump and motor. Any dirt or contaminant entering the system could cause damage so a through cleaning before cracking open the oil line or filter is the wise move and keeping the work area clean is the best practice.
