Clevis hitch 8-5515

Recommended Posts

I recently installed the hitch assembly on a C161 auto.  One of the issues I have is length of travel or lift motion. I am using a short clevis up front and chain in the rear on a slot hitch.

Do I need to screw in the trunion on the cable? Currently the cable is at the end of the trunion and I can't really use less chain links.

The bell crank (#19) has 3 holes for the trunion. The farther holes provide for more travel. I guess that sounds obvious but what hole is the trunion in? Screwing the trunion in (shortening the cable) doesn't change the distance of travel, it changes the starting and ending points.

True. Pictures of the bell crank and chain to hitch would help us understand your issue better.

The clevis is in the bottom hole but there is a trunion in the rear can be adjusted.

If the cable goes slack when the hitch is lowered, the cable needs to be shortened until it has tension thru the complete range of lift.

I am not using a clevis hitch but using a slot hitch. I could add a hole to it like mentioned in the bulletin however I was thinking about adjusting the rear trunion.

I think this is about the range of motion on the rear lift cable.

As you surmise, there is only one position on the mid-tractor rock shaft for attaching the rear cable, so the cable pull distance is fixed.

At the rear rock shaft, the trunnion attaches at a point farthest from the shaft’s pivot. Connecting the chain closer to the pivot has the effect of adding leverage at the cost of shorter chain travel.

The clevis hitch mod is good, but doesn’t work for the slot hitch!

I’m not sure of the geometry of the C’s, but at the rear rock shaft attaching the chain farther from the pivot or attaching the trunnion closer to the pivot will both yield longer chain travel (albeit at the cost of reducing leverage). Just pay attention to all the angles and where cable and chain might rub when there is a load on the rear hitch!
