squonk 47,664 #1 Posted yesterday at 08:53 PM Fellow approached me at the Steam Pageant. Said he has a B-80 sitting in a barn that needs a home. Hadn't used it in years Well it's crusty, dusty and poopy. Shot tires but I have spares in the parts dept. Can't believe the seat is nice! Gonna get that off and hit the tractor with Dawn Power Wash and let it get rained on. Got to de- mouse the engine before going inside. Center spindle on deck needs work but the shell looks solid! 4

Bill D 3,054 #5 Posted 23 hours ago (edited) Nice find. Personally I'd love to find a 416H in a barn, but that's me. Can't wait to hear it run. My friend Dave, who got me into Wheel Horses had one for years until the connecting rod broke. Edited 23 hours ago by Bill D

Nice find Mike. You hit the jack pot if the engine is good. You know the drill with these. I am sure it will fire right up. Enjoy the project.
ebinmaine 80,045 #11 Posted 9 hours ago I have this one set aside. I believe it's a 1976. I bought this from @Retired Wrencher Gary. Overall decent shape but the engine was incorrectly rebuilt. Not sure if I will have my favorite local small engine shop fix this one, or just swap another one in. Definitely looking forward to having this machine as a part of my working Herd.

I was never a fan of the 8hp tractors, until I bought one in a package deal with a bucket. Definitely fuel sipping and gets the job done. Combined with the 8 speed transmission they are impressive. 3

Yep, I have 6 machines here with Kohler 8’s and they all “sip fuel”. And yes, they sometimes mow at full throttle for an hour or so. 2

c-series don 12,293 #18 Posted 7 hours ago I’d start hitting that seat with some vinyl conditioner massaging it in with latex gloves on. I did that with the barn find C-101 I bought last year and it worked well. 2 2
clueless 3,434 #19 Posted 6 hours ago My first WH was a 12 year old 1974 B-80 I bought 40 years ago it came with a 36RD deck, cut my grass, pulled my cart and moved my old Boston Whaler around for 11 years. I found a nice C-120 and bought it and sold the B for 100.00 less than I paid for it. Over the last 30 years I've bought and sold 30+ WH's, my two favorites are the '74 B80 and the '76 B80. The '76 would run my 36" tiler down hear with no problem. In the last year I've sold all my horses except 3 of my round hood, if I ever decided to buy another WH it will be a B80.
squonk 47,664 #20 Posted 6 hours ago Still got the little baby buggy bumpers on the hood and seat hinges. Seat clean up

Definitely looking forward to having this machine as a part of my working Herd. It would be nice to have that engine fixed. By finding another engine or have it rebuilt. Then you would have a great tight space tractor. Great for hauling tight space wood out of the woods and the 8speed is a plus..
squonk 47,664 #22 Posted 4 hours ago Pulled the shroud. Can't believe there is no mouse nest! There is some creative wiring with a push pull switch feeding the coil. ( Did I mention this came from a farm?) Got it to spin over. The clutch switch still works! It has compression and spark and tried to fire on carb cleaner.
squonk 47,664 #23 Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Things were going too well! Time for some setbacks! Was cranking it over and saw fuel dripping by the carb. Fuel line is shot and not in my stock. So off I go to one of the 2 parts stores open. No customers there and 2 guys working. They have all of the sizes except 1/4" So I go to the other store open. There are 4 employees outside looking under the hood of a Ford Ranger. There are 2 more inside. How many people do they need on a Sunday? Anyway they had just enough hose. Went to change the line and the fuel tank grommet crumbled apart. None on the shelf. So I went and got out my engine stand tank and put it on as a temp. Used the tank time to get the critter trash out of the tower. Looked at the funky wiring. Tested the switch which was correct but the ignition part was not working. Hence the push button switch. I had a used switch in stock. Tested that and the start part doesn't work! So that went into the trash. Got some fuel flowing and hit the key and SHE'S A RUNNER!!! Nice and quiet. That muffler must be one of the good ones. Got to get a seat back on and change 1 more rear tire. Got a switch, shifter boot, and tank grommets on the order sheet for now.
