Retired Wrencher 6,864 #1 Posted 2 hours ago I have this B-60 with a Start/Gen engine in it = not by me. I would like to get an original engine for this. This would be my show putter, reason is I’m trying to preserve the 856 I have. Having a hard time finding one around here. I really don’t wanna put a harbor freight engine in it. I know some people like them and some people don’t. Any thoughts are welcome or someone here has one 100 miles or less. I’d be willing to pick it up. These are cool little tractors. With a big gas tank. I’m thinking you could drive multiple days on one tank at the shows. I’ve only seen a couple in my time. Thanks for any thought`s. Achto 32,190 #2 Posted 2 hours ago Are you planning are transferring the engine from the B-60 to your 856? If not, then I would run it like it is.

He wants to have the original 7 HP pull start engine in there. How difficult would it be to make an 8 HP electric start into a pull start?
ri702bill 12,654 #4 Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Hmmm... I'm not too sure that adding a yank start to a 7 or 8 HP Kohler with a dead weight S/G as you pull the rope is a great idea. One of the dis-advantages with the pull start style the contortions you do to clutch it as you attempt to start it. (provided you have the rope handle facing to the rear). A lot have the rope handle facing the grille - you best make absolutely sure the Unidrive is not in gear! If what you already have works, charges, doesn't leak or smoke... just run it and criuse the Big Show next year to find what you want.... That's an excellent point. 1 hour ago, Retired Wrencher said: original engine Gary are you OK with having a tractor that likely forces you to go through all the motions of the starting process while OFF the seat, then climb on a running rig? Why even consider a harbor fr.. engine at all? You have a great Kohler engine there now.

I have all of mine facing forward. Also have a strict starting procedure that I follow. One of the steps is to lock the parking brake, if it has one.

How difficult would it be to make an 8 HP electric start into a pull start? You would need the non-ring gear flywheel, magneto and the appropriate sheet metal. There would be no battery, lighting or lighter (smoking is bad for you anyway). In my opinion we are all getting older and pushing a button is better than yanking a rope. K-181S is shown as the proper OME engine for a B-80. That is an electric start eight horse power Kohler, that is the way to go. Most people wouldn't know the deference and you could always say the B-80 decals are on backorder.
