Mule Drive Question

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon All

Installed a Mule Drive on my Raider 12.

For some reason, it just doesn't look right.

The belt from the motor APPEARS like it will chafe on the front axle.

I do not have belts or a deck (looking for a 42" rear discharge), I'm open for recommendations for both.

Here are some pics.

Here is the one I bolted on to my 71 raider 12 it works find. I used two  1/4" flats and one 1/8" flat as spacers between the frame and hitch.

I had to cut off the hood hinges and bolt them back to the hitch.

Mine is mounted flush at the axle pin which resulted in approx 1/2" to "space" at the three bolts. Used the original hood mount location.

 Couple of questions:

 1) Are there different mule drives that were used on different models?

 2) What size belt do you use from the motor to the drive?

 3) Do you have a pic of the belt were it crosses the axle?

Just a thought: My Raider is powered by a 12 hp Kohler, Can't tell what yours is.

All front on the classic Wheel Horse garden tractors is the same. Started with the no names in 1973.

Mule drive size on 42" and  48" side discharge decks is 1/2" x 103". I use the blue belt from Tractor Supply. Other decks may be a different size.Goes down  The mule drive belt The mule drive goes down from the PTO to in inside vee idler and comes back up on the back side over the flat idler.

It has a 12 HP Kohler. Don't have the mower deck on the Raider.

There an inch between the belt coming over the flat idler and the axle.

Thanks for the pictures, belt size information and the tutorial.

I now understand the belt routing.
