Parts tractor or Project? C-160 Auto

I have a chance to pick this tractor up locally for $200.  Deal or No Deal?

Sounds like it belonged to the seller's grandfather - so details are patchy. 

 

Based on her recollection of her grandfather's statement and the fact that the fan guard is off - I'm guessing the flywheel will need to come off.

It's worth the parts price alone. I don't know what the flywheel would have to do with spark unless the engine has been swapped.

Brain fart on my part. I was thinking magneto rather than battery ignition. A second cup of coffee is starting to clear the fog.

Thank you - I'm a body and paint guy, not a mechanic - so I'm educating myself as I go.

If that's the case, could it also be a mis-diagnosed rectifier and low voltage?

I guess getting my hands on it and some time with the multimeter may tell the story.

Her comment about wire wheel to clean up corrosion??maybe a bad ground somewhere

 

Bad stator would mean battery going dead

New candidate for worst seat.  Definitely needs a bath.  Simple electrical system.   Should be an easy fix.

k341 if it aint locked up is worth asking price especially around these parts... steering wheel appears to bo in good shape also..

If it still has the  K341 you should save it. 74 or 75 hydro with a hydrolic lift. Only made C-160s from 1974 to 1977.

Simple electric system, easy to get to mid hitch set up. " They Don't Get  Any Better "

The whole K341 up here NOT running is a $300 piece.

Deep diving the photos online, it appears to be a '74 (flip-up fender pan). Twin to the '74 I currently own.

Let us not forget the seat pan. That was what initially sparked my attention. I was looking for one to build an alternate seat for my sulky.

Plus, my growing collection of hydraulic lift components.

My 75 C160-8 has the flip up seat pan. This series of Wheel Horses is right before they really started over complicating the electrical system IMO. I love the round hoods and the short frame sqaure hoods to, but as far as working these are hard to beat. Oh, heck I love them all, but these are workers fer sure.

Agreed.  The K341 is a torque monster.

Someone probably thought it was a magneto. Definitely looks like it's worth the asking price and nearly twice that if it had gotten a bath before it was advertised.

I think a body and paint guy would appreciate how straight that beastie is. It has the cool guy seat as well S THE FANCY SCHMANTSY light bezel. I am not sure why the engine is not red. could it be a replacement with low hours? i am sure the experts will chime in.

    A tractor that old that looks like that was kept inside. Buy it.

I need to do an ID check on my C-160. I may have just assumed that it was a '74.

Ugh - still on hold on this one. Seller only checks messages once a week or so. So far, timing has not matched up.
