Vintage Sulky

Was looking for a decent sulky to use at tractor and engine shows or perhaps in parades. Was even considering building one, when I stumbled across this one nearby.

The seat suspension caught my eye right away.

With the exception of a drill hole at the rear hitch plate, it appears to be completely unmolested.

Shame that one of the Goodyear tires holds air and looks great - the other one is split on the sidewall.

I had intentions of getting a sulky and modifying it with some upgrades. With this one being so original, any I'll try to keep any mods as bolt-ons.

A.I. keeps telling me it is David Bradley. I found another one on eBay and they're calling it a '50s era Toro.  Anyone else have any idea?

Repro tires can be had but do you have any idea what those rims are worth??? Guard them with your life. They are the same rims used on very early RJs and are hen's teeth is that condition.

These are 3.50 - 6" vs. the 8" in your picture. But definitely cool with the 3/4" roller bearings.

Cool piece !! If you are going to use it as a sulky behind a tractor, may I suggest installing a "T" handle / grab handle by the foot rests ? I've ridden a sulky's similar to yours and it sure would feel a whole lot more secure if you had something to hold on to with your hands.

Probably was built for a two wheeled tractor so you would have the handles in hand.  Don't trust AI on this one though, I don't think they had such a comfortable seat suspension.

I mentioned ape hangers but it quickly devolved when she started adding streamers and a bell

@Bar Nuthin  that entire set up is like a perfect era , salvation  to me , imagine having a roller bearing with grease on / in it ?  those old basic set ups were made when  things  did not fail , looks like a roller stool , study in function , to me , how does it work , what can be  improved ?  bet simple easy enhancements , do the most , of course , lucas , green xtra hd ,chassis grease in every  movement area , might even oil patina the original paint  , would be fitting  , perfect  , luck you , pete

I messaged the guy that has one for sell on eBay. He was a long-time Toro dealer.

The only noticeable differences are the wheel bearings have been superseded and the set screw for the tongue is on the side, not the top.

Wish I could see what that decal looks like. I've messaged the eBay guy to see if maybe he can provide a photo.
