42in SD spindles not taking grease

Recommended Posts

TC10284

42in side discharge deck on a 312-8.

Since I've had it, I haven't been able to get grease in the spindles. Tonight I took off the nut and lock washer, and the pulley off each spindle. I cleared out the holes in the shaft so grease could flow. I confirmed they were flowing by using my grease gun while the shaft was still out if the spindle. It did flow.

I put the shaft back on the spindle, put the lock washer and nut back on.

Tightened it down with the air impact and NOT MUCH!

After tightening it down with the impact some, and testing to see if I could get grease to flow, it does not. Now it is coming out of the gap in the lock washer on top and I am at a loss.

Just reading the service bulletin and striking the shaft on the top will make it take grease. I suppose if you hit the shaft and the space internal to the tube gets a little play, the grease will flow around into the cavity.

You are that far apart, I would remove the bearings and look at the grease hole in the spacer tube along with the grease in the cavity.

With the way the grease is coming up around the shaft to the nut, for sure those bearing are not getting grease. :twocents-twocents:
