whtractors24 3,509 #1 Posted July 2 I’m looking to see where a 1976 c-120 automatic original clutch return spring actually mounts? The second photo is the repair that was done at one time . Thank you
ri702bill 12,386 #2 Posted July 2 Is that a snapped off remnant of a bolt above and behind the current location?? Maybe there was a mount there???
peter lena 9,931 #3 Posted July 2 @whtractors24 dare I ask ? are all movement areas , rusty or movable ? penetrant / red aerosol spray grease works wonders , pete
pfrederi 20,823 #4 Posted July 2 It mounts inside the hood stand and is a PITA to hook up.. Probably why someone made the repair you showed
pfrederi 20,823 #5 Posted July 2 OK a couple pics of the hook up.... the hidden end of the spring goes to a hole in # 6-61 cam neutral plate Good luck If you really are into self flagellation I can send you a spring
ineedanother 2,513 #6 Posted 16 hours ago I just went through this with a '73 auto. I'm going to true it up with a better anchor point now that I'm sure it works well but here is what I fashioned to avoid digging in the hood tower...

I'd like to make a suggestion on the spring position. Flip it over so the tang ends point down. I've lost some in various machines over the years because they can lose tension and gravity takes over.
MainelyWheelhorse 2,787 #8 Posted 16 hours ago I ought to do something like this for my 78 C-141 Auto. The brakes are a bit lacking.
peter lena 9,931 #9 Posted 2 hours ago @whtractors24 looks like your spring pull point is at the extreme end of , UNSUPORTED strength ,might even suggest a bolt on eye bolt or a length of 5/16 steel rod , for a more solid reaction on the spring . pete
squonk 47,254 #10 Posted 2 hours ago I clamped a spring to the rod that goes to the pedal and hooked it to the rear axle. This isn't even a "Brake" unless it's on the later Sunstrand. It's a "return to neutral" actuator. The trans hydraulics provide the braking. We're not trying to land a Space X rocket here!
