I went to a big box hardware store many years ago and asked the kid who was in the plumbing department if they had a one inch dresser coupling (a thread-less coupling to join two pipes without threading the pipes). His response was, stay right here and I will get you one. He came back with a mending plate and said I could "COUPLE TWO DRESSERS TOGETHER WITH IT".        

 

I proceeded to ask the kid who the oldest employee was and he directed me to a man in the lumber department. After a good hardy laugh the lumber guy went to the plumbing department and dug through the assorted fittings behind the counter and handed me a one inch dresser coupling.

Yes, the older employee gave him a tour of the types of pipe fittings they hade. When I went back to that HD I never saw the kid again but don't know if he moved on to another job or just had the day off.
