Fj40z 94 #1 Posted 2 hours ago My father in law has his old 582 that hasn’t ran in close to 20 years. Said I could have it if I wanted to do try and get it back going again. I’ve checked the serial numbers and it’s a pre MTD so still all IH made. He said a gear had stripped in the motor but I wasn’t too sure of what he was talking about. I’m green on Wheel Horses and even greener on Cub stuff. I’m sure it’s built like a tank but what’s the general consensus on these from the more well informed?

The thing that concerns me the most is I’ve read that twin cylinder Briggs can be problematic and a lot of 582 owners end up swapping motors. Not sure my skill set will allow that. Sure I could figure it out eventually but not enough time for a project like that.
