Cub Cadet 582 thoughts

My father in law has his old 582 that hasn’t ran in close to 20 years. Said I could have it if I wanted to do try and get it back going again. I’ve checked the serial numbers and it’s a pre MTD so still all IH made. He said a gear had stripped in the motor but I wasn’t too sure of what he was talking about. I’m green on Wheel Horses and even greener on Cub stuff. I’m sure it’s built like a tank but what’s the general consensus on these from the more well informed?

Generally a model that Cub Cadet collectors look for. They are built like a tank. Better that it is 582 and not a 582s. The 582s had a cheaper transmission.

I believe I read that somewhere as well. The thing that concerns me the most is I’ve read that twin cylinder Briggs can be problematic and a lot of 582 owners end up swapping motors. Not sure my skill set will allow that. Sure I could figure it out eventually but not enough time for a project like that.
