eric8 4 #1 Posted 12 hours ago Hi folks. New member here and I've just acquired my first Wheel Horse ever; a 1993 520H. Does someone have any good reference photos showing the factory routing of the battery cables? Specifically, how they exit the battery "box" area? Would also like to see how the negative side cable is attached to the frame/engine. Lastly, my machine has a large rubber line on the right side of the engine that starts underneath the muffler area, runs down across the PTO pulleys, and dumps under the frame. I'm guessing some type of drain, but I can't tell what it's draining? Nor do I see it in any of the parts breakdowns.
Handy Don 16,689 #2 Posted 10 hours ago Welcome to the Forum! Just to help out, how about taking and posting a couple of pictures of what you’re looking at? Best are JPEG (HEIC, the default iPhone format, won’t work).
eric8 4 #3 Posted 10 hours ago No problem, I will get some photos of my battery cable routing as soon as I get home. As far as the unknown rubber hose, here is a pic of it circled in blue. On my tractor, it appears to be going to nothing on either end.

It pulls the PTO clutch together to engage the mower deck. Real nice looking tractor !! Edited 9 hours ago by Achto
JimSraj 577 #5 Posted 9 hours ago That’s not a rubber hose if I’m looking at what you are asking about. It’s part of the PTO clutch assembly.

Well I feel like a fool now looking at that all this time thinking it's a hose! (p.s. that tractor in that photo isn't mine, it's just one I pulled off here)

eric8 4 #9 Posted 2 hours ago Well as promised here are the photos of my battery cable routing. It just doesn’t look “factory” to me. 1. Unsure if the cables exiting the battery should bend back and go down by the sides of the battery as currently configured? Or go forward over that black cross brace, and then down between the engine and “firewall?” 2. Unsure if negative connection to engine/frame is factory correct? All other engine mount bolts are pointing down with the bolt head “up” except for left rear which has the nut on top, and the neg cable sandwiched between the bottom of the frame and bolt head . (3rd pic is of all the engine mount bolt configurations except for the upside down one containing the negative cable lug) Tried looking for some factory literature or brochures that would show a correct 1993 configuration of this stuff but coming up empty handed. Attaching a trickle charger and still being able to close the hood is nice. Also, WHEN that 9 pin connector starts acting up- the main battery cables won't be in your way. And grounding on an engine lug is actually a good idea. The 520 series tractors have more wiring than all of the rest of the classic models. There isn't a clean and neat version that I've seen. The absence of wire nuts, scotch locks, or electrical tape is a good thing.
