69 Raider 10 Upgrade or Repair?

Recommended Posts

This is my current project, a 69' Raider 10. It has a HORRIBLE knock, but it runs smooth otherwise. I've got an Onan P220 that runs and functions perfectly. Our next option is a 14hp Kohler that also functions great. Should I rebuild the HH100 or swap it?

IMHO... spending your resources  - time & money - going thru a Tecumseh is akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the listing Titanic... Swap it with the Kohler.

Looks like I got my answer! Consider it done, eventually.....

Piling on...

I am not a Tecumseh hater. There can be valid reasons to invest time and treasure to resuscitate one. However, if a low- or no-cost compatible Kohler is available to swap in, the swap wins.

Dig a big enough hole to burry them so you don't trip over them.                   :ROTF:

Yeah I have to defer to this line of thought.

Some folks love thier Tecchy engines. To each his own. :hide: I guess a human being can get used to most anything. Bad food, lousy job, ugly women, and Techumseh engines...

Go with the K321. Time and money in this engine is a far better bet and it might actually last.  It absolutely will be more dependable.

Kohler

There tanks. And well worth a rebuild even in my opinion. Very simple engines when something does fault.

Keeping everything original would be the only reason I would think about picking a Tecky over a Kohler. I just have one Tecky on a 551 suburban but fortunately it seems to be in pretty decent working order :handgestures-fingerscrossed:. If you dont care about keeping it original I would diffently go back with a Kohler, that Onan P220 would look pretty wicked on it also...

Almost done with the Kohler swap. I've found a pretty sweet use for that P220 but thats for later
