Wire nuts are for interior wiring, they will come loose from vibration.

@Achto prefers scotch locks but I prefer to solder western union splices and shrink wrap or properly crimped butt connectors.

I've had good luck with just a plain old butt connector with the heat shrink casing on it

I've been using these heat shrink splices that have solder in them.  They are the "Cats Meow"! 

But it does take a good hot heat gun to get it hot enough to melt the solder in them.

I've used wire nuts in the past and shot silicone caulk into the connector... locks up the connection, waterproof, and was what I had on hand... never had an issue going on 5 years winter plowing...

OMG those are designed for solid conductor wire, not stranded.

I've been using these as well. Pretty neat concept for a butt splice. But yes they have to get pretty hot to flow the solder. 

 

A good soldering iron and heat shrink are still best. 

 

I use crimp on contacts but I remove the plastic sleeve beforehand and solder them and use shrink wrap to seal out the elements. Never had a wiring failure.

This little heat gun was worth the money when I was putting together the WH Snow Trooper project. I use the heat shrink splices and then cover them with black heat shrink.

I've also used Wago lever connectors in a pinch. 

 

I used marine style connectors for connections into the control boxes. This kept the controllers mostly water proof.

I love the build, but just wish it was all on one thread.  Just imagine a build thread for this entire project, one that was from start to finish.  It would be so much easier to find later on for reference, or sharing, etc.
