Well folks you may well be seeing me poking around here.
picked up this little tractor yesterday. Won’t say it was a grand slam of a deal but think it was a fair price. Came with a tiller, mower deck, front blades snow plow and a little trailer. Young fellow blew the original Kohler up, repowered with a HF Predator, paint is not even burnt off the muffler. Basically bought the HF engine and got the rest for free. Front and rear tires are ag bar tires and foam filled. Kind of bubba’d up but nothing I can’t fix properly and some what more correct.

One thing right off the top is the high low will not move……..

fiberglass fender are cracked. Don’t know if I will try and repair or see about fitting craftsman metal fenders to it.
All I want is the tiller, so the rest will be sold off at some point.

Sounds like it was originally a BlackHood series tractor (model C-175) 1980-1984.

Those plastic fenders rarely survived, but can easily be swapped out for fenders off a 300, 400 or 500 series. No drilling, just bolt in place of the plastic ones, even has the large hole for the fuel tank fill.
I have a few BlackHoods here currently.

The C-85 still has its plastic fender intact.

The high / low shift can be a bit touchy. I always turn off the engine, put the transaxle in first gear then rock the tractor while pushing on the lever, don't try to force it.

Not to be debby downer but might be shifter forks broke or worse high/low gear crunched. Had it happen to one.

What's the condition of the oil?

I have not checked the oil yet.
I will put it in gear and rock it and try that.
would not surprise me if the fork isn’t broke after

seeing some of the other silliness that was done.

This is a C series, correct?

getting ready to take the drive belt off. I have a BCD series owners manual but there is no schematic for belt route. Is that available somewhere where?

Does the mower and tiller take a totally different drive dog/mule? I got two of them.

Got the HF engine off today. This thing is a pig and needs a bath. I have not checked the problem getting dirty, but why not keep stuff clean or at least pressure wash it off before you start a project, always baffled me.
About have it stripped down to the frame, console is all that’s left.

Thanks for the input folks. Much appreciated on my end. Have fooled with a lot of tractors over the years large and small, my first go with a WH. They seem to be no overly engineered but engineered well
