The first owner did a lot on jury rigging on this tractor. I hope I can get every thing back like it is supposed to be. I am a little shaky about tearing into the Hydro I don't even know if it works or not. Wish me luck fellows I have had good luck so far.

Chas, you're making good progress. :hide:

As for the mechanicals, I'd say tear into it! There are a ton of folks here more than willing to help guide you through the process. That's what this place is all about!

I learned a lot when I tore my C-105 apart but it is an 8 Speed this one is a Hydro I am leaning toward just getting the front frame and all cleaned up a good bit. The back moter mount block had a broken set screw they are 3/8X16-13/4 NLA.The Po must have had trouble with it because he had some kind of belting material packed under it to stop it from shaking. I think I will use grade 8 bolts to hold the mount on the frame, the isolation mounts were shot to,(good thing I got another shaker plate). The last guy that had it said he never had any thing apart on it,he said it was given to him. The old girl has lived a rough life. Time will tell!!!!

It is looking good Chas, I too have to tear into a Hydro, kinda looking forward to it, but it is a little intimadating, but it has to be done, I have a 877 for parts I may see if some of the Hydro parts will fit on the 69 Electro. But keep up the good work!

I would use grade 5 bolts and not grade 8. Reasons are 1. Grade 8 bolts are hard to the point of being brittle. That is why automobiles almost excusively use grade 5 fasteners. You might find a grade 8 on a cylinder head bolt or a flywheel stud. sure the tensile strength is higher on a grade 8 than a grade 5, but just like an automobile, you want SOME flexibility. And grade 5 bolts have MORE than enough tensile strength for any place on your wheelhorse. And, if you ever do break a bolt off, and need to drill it for using an easy out, it's not going to happen if it's a grade 8. I'm using 316 stainless bolts everywhere except the transmission to frame bolts on my C-120. 316 stainless bolts have only a marginal advantage over grade 2 steel in terms of tensile strength, and do not come close to grade 5, but I'm not worried at all. Even grade 2 steel bolts are fine for everything except the tranny to frame bolts and maybe the engine mount bolts on your Wheel Horse.

Got the rear wheel off, the tires are in pretty bad shape.suprisingly the hubs came off real easy the keyways are real tight.the axles seem to move in and out about 1/8 inch, is this something I should address or is this normal? Any case here are some more pictures.

Oct13005.jpg

The old seat without a cushion, maybe I can get it recovered.

Back View

I should have this tractor back together next spring. :scratchead:

I have to work on it outside, no more room in the barn.

Chas, the in-out axle play is entirely normal, as long it's not matched by side-to-side slop (just kidding!). All three of mine have that amount of play, and I've read here that it's a common Unidrive characteristic.

That seat pan looks to be in good shape - I'll bet you can get it recovered somewhere!

Best,

Thanks Duff for the information! :scratchead: I think it may need axel seals the right hub must have been loose I could move it in and out with my hand, lot of oil on the axel and hub. The hitch pin was a little gaulded but, I whacked it with a brass hammer it moved, so I used a big punch drove it on through. Cleaned it up with sanding cloth, works fine now. :ychain:

Chas, It's looking pretty good! Sounds like your having a good time on this one. Did that engine run? If it did it must have been mice powered. :scratchead: Keep up the posts!

Nov13004.jpg

I got the axel,Wheels, tirods and every thing all back on and discovered I forgot to put the motor mount bar on. :notworthy: So I had to take every thing back off, you can't put the bar on because the axel is in the way to get to the bolts. Us old fellers have to write every thing down. :)

Well I hope I don't have to make this a double project!! :banghead:

Well I had to take the fender pan back of to install the tail lights, not to much room between the fender pan and gas tank. Here is a picture of the tail lights.

Nov17002.jpg

I put the belt guard on to check out how it would fit, running board too.

Nov17003.jpg

checked out the wireing harness found a couple of bare spots, repaired them.

Nov17005.jpg

Oh and the other side too.

Nov17007.jpg

That is about all this trip
