tarcoleo 119 #1 Posted October 4, 2009 Within reason it is possible to repair rubber isolator mounts using a product available from Walmart. Its called "Welder" and comes in a squirt tube. It has amazing bonding ability with almost anything, especially rubber, and cures in 24 hours to a toughness equal to that of the original isolator rubber. And it has great gap-filling ability. As an adhesive it has many other uses --no shop should be without it. Its limitation is that it is softened by heat, but that isn't a problem in most applications. Try it, you'll probably find it useful. Tom ("sticky fingers") in RI :ychain:
oldandred 15 #2 Posted October 4, 2009 Why not get the correct mounts from toro ?
tarcoleo 119 #3 Posted October 5, 2009 A set of four runs close to $100 I am told. If not too far gone, they can be repaired. On the other hand, I have made perfectly good original rubber mounts for next to nothing. This is what comes of a depression upbringing. wingrider 21 #4 Posted October 6, 2009 I bought 4 mounts this spring from Toro amd they were 32.00 each, so you won't get them for 100.00 wingrider
tarcoleo 119 #5 Posted October 6, 2009 Hi Wingrider, Did you have a S/H charge and sales tax on top of the parts price? BTW, "Welder" costs less than $10.00. Tom in RI :scratchead:
mnWHfan 47 #6 Posted October 7, 2009 I purchased four of these mounts for my C161 from Manke's Outdoor Power Equipment in Owatana, MN. He charged me about $19.50 each and about $5 for shipping.
Coadster32 793 #7 Posted October 7, 2009 Don't know if this will help but surpluscenter.com has "rubber vibration-isolator foot mounts" on sale for $.39 each. They are 1.5 OD 3/4 ID by 5/8 thick. Good luck. I've delt with them before, and have worked out well.
tarcoleo 119 #8 Posted October 7, 2009 It is possible to make your own isolator motor mounts starting with $1.00 cheapo rubber mallets and slicing off rubber discs and boring 3/8" holes. Rubber can be bored using a trepanning tool made from thin-wall brass tubing (in hobby shops). You can figure out the rest using large dia. steel washers, etc. Tom in RI :scratchead:
MikesRJ 552 #9 Posted March 17, 2010 Rubber mallet rubbers is far too brittle for motor mounts. Try Coadster's suggestion. https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=...1-3235&catname=

Jim_M 178 #12 Posted March 18, 2010 I've got some good used ones, not a complete set, but at least a pair, maybe even 3 of them. PM me if you're interested, I'll make you a deal you can't refuse.
tarcoleo 119 #13 Posted March 18, 2010 04fxdwg- Hockey pucks = too hard for motor mounts Rubber mallets = softer and well suited for the purpose. Just an opinion, I know nothing about lifts. Enjoy the spring you all. Tom in RI
