don from mystic 3 #1 Posted April 16 My 1974 C-100 has developed a leak around the brake shaft.. Before I pull the drum Im hoping someone can supply the part number of the seal I need so I can have it on hand when I start the job. Many thanks.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 12,310 #2 Posted April 16 You will find the illustrated parts list for your transmission here. Take the part number to the pined links at the top of the Transmission Section for reference to suitable replacements. 1
ri702bill 12,338 #3 Posted April 16 That is not an overly difficult job. Do a search in the Transmissions section - there have been many postings about what to do & not to do. DO check the condition of the drum or shaft for excessive wobble first before you pull the seal. If there is any up & down or side to side movement, it is a complete waste of time & money to replace just the seal... Looseness means internal wear. In & out movement is OK

The bolt is right hand threaded but some thread-locker was used on the bolt from the factory. Heating the bolt up (not to red hot) will help get it moving. Be sure to use some blue or red thread locker when the bolt goes back in.
wallfish 20,127 #7 Posted April 17 Back and forth left and right turns with a battery impact usually gets them moving. Or a six point socket with a breaker bar
don from mystic 3 #8 Posted April 23 Me again, sorry. The bolt came out after some gentile heat. My question is - should the seal be recessed approx 1/8" into the transmission casting? Mine is. Almost enough room to put the new seal on top of it (I wouldn't). Just wondering if the new seal should be installed flush with the casting? Thanks for all the help
rmaynard 17,380 #9 Posted April 23 Yes, it should be flush.
