856 Mysterious 2 bolt holes

Afternoon,

 

Anyone know what these 2 threaded bolt holes on 856 are intended to be used for? And what size bolts fit inside by chance?

Those are for the PTO bracket that was available as an add on. 

 

8-3411 was the part number or similar. The same system came standard on later machines. 

 

I had the same thing on my Bronco for a while.

Interesting.. wasn’t aware the 856 was available with an optional PTO since mine has neither rear or front PTO shafts… 

I’ve been thinking of mounting my fuel pump to those bolt holes since any other options even under fuel tank seem difficult given how my choke cable and fuel tank valve are situated

I thought those holes were for if you had a sickle bar mower, I never asked about it but that's just what I thought, I didn't realize you could get that style of pto on a short frame tractor

The lever style PTO was not offered on the 702 or 854 but could be retofitted to either - if you had all the pieces & patience....

I gave the wrong part number before. For 1 inch shaft engines, it was PT-7.

The hard part to find is the engine pulley because it is so much smaller on pre 1968 machines.

Like the one on my 867 in the pic below. Probably same dash pedestal used on all models.

I wouldn't say wrong, because it was before my time for certain. The 7363 pulley pictured above was key.

Well yes and no ... big block in a short frame 1045 & 1055 still has the foot PTO. Long frames '66 and up yes side handle.

Correct that the standard changed, but the PT-7 kit was only an add on option.

I googled that part #.. and bought 2 bolts listed in the download description.. get home and they don’t fit those 2 holes above my 856 logo. Any chance you know what size fits in those holes?

This is on my 867, which should be the same. 1/4 x 20 threads.

What would the holes there on an 854 be then because all three of our 854s inclouding the one that is original, since the lever style pto didnt come out till 66. Looking in the sales brochures and people with sickles, I had assumed that they were for the mount that goes on the side of the dash stand to hold the bar up when no in use.
