Snowblower Drive Shaft Collar

Putting the snowblower  (79360) away and doing some year end maintenance.

There is a collar on the drive shaft on the right side that has come loose.

I'm assuming it goes tight to the body of the blower tight to the flange that has the grease zerk in it.

 

I'm also assuming it's held in place by set screws. I've never seen a collar with 2 set screws before.

One has fallen out and the other I can't seem to find the right allen key for.

What have I got wrong? Is it in fact a collar or does it do something else?

Does it have a counterbore on the back side to fit over the inner race of the bearing? If so it is a cam lock to secure the inner race to the shaft. One hole is for a punch so you can tap the collar to tighten against the matching cam of the inner race. You drive the collar in the direction of normal shaft rotation and lock it down with the set screw. Hard to explain.

It appears it does. One of the holes won't be threaded. A blind hole. 

Use the manual below to reset it. Clean excess grease off first.

I'm going out to take a stab at this.  I'll report back shortly.

99% successful. I could get the eccentric collar hand tight but every time I tried the punch it came loose.

So I'm going to leave it as is with the set screw in place properly (I'll get a new one in there before next winter.)

Unless there's some trick to smackin it with hammer.

The purpose of the collar is to make the bearing a tight fit on the shaft, it appears that yours has been run for a long time with the bearing wobbling and wearing the shaft.  Start by cleaning everything and then check the damage.  You might be able to buy a new bearing at TSC, the shaft is something to post in the wanted section.
