TonyToro Jr. 2,390 #1 Posted 23 hours ago Well oops I did it again! Picked this up today. Runs ok at about half choke but is clearing up so may just be bad fuel. But a carb cleaning will still come. This is the only picture you get today. More to come tommorow. 9

That would have been a good addition to this thread:
TonyToro Jr. 2,390 #5 Posted 4 hours ago Here it is! It’s a little rough in some spots. So some spots will get repainted. It runs ok on half choke so a carb cleaning and drain the old gas is coming for this. The previous owner said this engine was replaced? I’m not familiar with these engines so maybe someone else will chime in on that. There’s 1488 on the hour meter but haven’t ran it enough to see if that works. The hydro needs an adjustment as the lever is really loose. The deck has some patches but I do have a 48” that I can put on this. 1
pfrederi 20,051 #6 Posted 4 hours ago (edited) KT17 Series are a good engine. The engine data is on the small plate I circled. Clean it carefully the number rub off easily. With spec and serial number we can see if it is newer. Edited 4 hours ago by pfrederi 1

TonyToro Jr. 2,390 #9 Posted 3 hours ago And if I remember correctly is there supposed to be a chrome cover here??
JCM 10,960 #10 Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Muffler should be chrome on a 417. And a chrome cover on a 418. The muffler exit can be either straight out the middle on the 417 or out the front end. Yours may have been chrome when new. Looks like a 1985. A true BEAST either way. Terry Dennis can make a new engine I.D. sticker for you. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 12,063 #11 Posted 50 minutes ago Kohler made serial 14235814 in 1984 so if original to the tractor it would be a 1985 model 31-17KE01.
pfrederi 20,051 #12 Posted 26 minutes ago That is the original spec number so I doubt this is a replacement engine. Series 2 are good engines...
