HY-2 Fluid

Recommended Posts

I know I've seen this discussed before, but what is everyone using for fluid in these add-on hydraulic lift systems?

I can find no information on what the original WH part number for the fluid actually was. I have been using type-F transmission fluid, and I cannot get the pump itself to stop leaking. I've been using the seal kits that Lowell sells, rebuilt multiple units and they all leak. It seems like every time I reseal one it leaks worse than before, and I have come to the conclusion that the rubber used for the seals and gaskets is not ATF resistant. This most recent one is leaking so bad it has gotten the main belt covered, so I basically only have 1st gear right now, everything else slips.

WHX??

I think it was some kind of atf.

I had one that I could never get to quit leaking but it was in pretty rough shape. Spool bore was really rough. Yah worse part it they leak right over the belt. Eventually replaced it with one off a 953 carcass & gave it to Lowell. He went through it and gave it back claiming it was leak free but I have yet to place it in service.

He told me he uses Lucas hy fluid cause of the additives in it.

I have also used type "F"  ATF for the 953s without any problems.

@adsm08   simple example of  oil /  lubrication  creep  , lower edge of  rear car hatch , that  was started at  highest  available access point ? that way  its a top down  creep , like a seamless  action / movement related , car  , shifting , bumps , curves , etc , have that in , every  seamed   component , zero rust , metal degradation , been doing this most of my life , my addiction to  lubrication , was also enhanced in N/G  , truck maint , winch rebuilding , experiment  on a problem , simple easy  . no rust , pete
