Tires and tubes?

Recommended Posts

Don't have a forum for this question:

Where can I pick up either a set of 16x5.50-8 tires or the tubes? I have checked pretty much everywhere with no luck, with some telling me they do not make thata size anymore! Any sources?

Still common and available:

(1) TSC (Tractor Supply Co.) has them in both Turf & Rib,

(2) most Auto Tire shops can order them through their Wholesaler Supply Source, in 24 hrs (and no shipping charges & they often they mount them for free, like at Discount Tire), or you can

(3) order them through eMail, like Miller Tire (www.Millertire.com), but then you will pay shipping.

It's best to get them locally, should be under $30 @.

Brian:

Opps . . . I was wrong, TSC and other places have the newer 16x6.50-8 tube, not the original 16x5.50-8 you need.

Doing a Google search: it looks like 1973 was the last year anyone made the 5.50. A couple of entries said you could use the 6.50 tube in a 5.50 wheel if it was clean and not rusty (suspect there may be some movement of the larger tube within the wheel rim during use). Other than an occasional 5.50 wheel on eBay, it doesn't look good. Good Luck,

Figured as much, I did pick up a 16x6.50-8 tube to go in the tire, the inside wasn't all bad but the outside is, but it is only temporary anyways, and it is working for now(knock on wood) lol. thanks for the help everyone.

So do they make a 16x5.50-8 tire? that is my next question, any idea?

In doing a Google search, and checking what catalogs I have, no, not since '73.

There is absolutely no problem using a slightly wider or narrower tube in your tire.

So if most of our Horses take a 16x5.50-8 tire, what do we use to replace our original tires? do we go to the 16x6.50-8 tire or what?
