Onan P218 rear oil seal replacement

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to replace the oil seal without removing the bearing plate. I have seen a method of removing the old seal with a self tapping screw threaded into a small drill hole and then it just being pulled out. I assume fitting the new seal would then just be a push fit ?? Any guidance would eb greatfully received.

I have drilled a couple small holes in the side of the seal, screwed some screws into them, then used 2 vise grips to pull an old seal out. This only works if the outside of the seal has enough meat on it.

Easy home made tool for installing them is a piece of PVC pipe that is the same outside diameter as the seal. They work great if you have to drive a seal back in with a shaft in place.
