MShepheard 2 #1 Posted March 23 Is it possible to replace the oil seal without removing the bearing plate. I have seen a method of removing the old seal with a self tapping screw threaded into a small drill hole and then it just being pulled out. I assume fitting the new seal would then just be a push fit ?? Any guidance would eb greatfully received.
Achto 31,805 #2 Posted March 23 (edited) I have drilled a couple small holes in the side of the seal, screwed some screws into them, then used 2 vise grips to pull an old seal out. This only works if the outside of the seal has enough meat on it. Easy home made tool for installing them is a piece of PVC pipe that is the same outside diameter as the seal. They work great if you have to drive a seal back in with a shaft in place. Edited March 23 by Achto 2

MShepheard 2 #5 Posted March 26 The seal just would not come out , previous owner used something to make sure of that. Ended up taking the bearing plate off anyway as the crankshaft had a small amount of movement in it. Bearing is knackered, it was a +10 oversize. Shaft isnt took bad but now I'm wondering where I can get new bearings from in the UK ??

If no bearings are available locally, try eBay in the USA, search with your part number (101-0805-10?) and you will find several that will ship to you. MShepheard 2 #7 Posted March 26 I had 101-0804-10 as the part number but it looks like either one produces results on ebay. Silly queston but should i replace it with the same +10 or given that the shaft must have worn by some amount so use a +20 ??

You need to carefully measure the diameter of the crank and buy the bearing that corresponds to the crank . A crank won’t wear very much and you might have one that was ground .010” undersize requiring a .010” under bearing. The -10 at the end of the part number indicates a .010” undersized bearing.
