6wheeler 675 #1 Posted 21 hours ago Hi all. I am working on my C-165. If the weather ever makes up its mind, I am trying to get the tilling tractor up and running. Here is my situation. My K341 is back firing out the exhaust and running very poorly. So far? Here is what I have done. First, I did a compression test, 123 psi, good. Next, put on a rebuilt carburetor with a new electric fuel pump. Next, file and set the points. Take it all apart and set the valves. I put it all back together and no change. I ordered points and a condenser to replace next. This is the same engine that swallowed the brass screws from the choke plate I posted a while ago. I pulled the head at that time and found no damage. I lapped the valves at that time and they both looked good. I just lapped them because I had it apart. I am stumped. What am I missing? TIA Pat
Bill D 2,665 #2 Posted 20 hours ago A bad condenser will cause backfiring. After you change points and condenser time it with a timing light.

wallfish 19,458 #4 Posted 19 hours ago Flooding, is fuel spitting out the front of the carb? Start it and disconnect the power for the electric pump so it's not feeding fuel. Take notice if it runs better before the carb bowl empties. Clogged muffler maybe? Try running it without one (but not for too long) or a different one on there.

Those engine have a compression release so you cant get a good compression reading. I've gotten 45-60 psi just verifying the compression release is working. The 123psi does not seem possible unless the compression release is not working.

6wheeler 675 #10 Posted 3 hours ago I am sorry guys. I didn't explain the compression reading. With an engine with ACR like these have. When you first do the test, you just spin the engine over with the starter about 5 or 6 revolutions. That should give 40 to 60 psi. If you spin it over several times, it will kick out the compression relief and the psi should go up to between 90 and a 120 psi or so. So I basically meant that I had good compression. I had to order my new points and condenser because "Apparently" no one local has them in stock. One place, I won't mention names. But, no auto parts available, parts "kid" asked. "What are those"? Never mind ..............
