Lane Ranger 11,829 #1 Posted 15 hours ago One of the key parts to make a Schnacke recoil work well on your RJ or Suburban work well is to have a flywheel nut that meshes well with your recoil. Depending on weather you have a Kohler or Clinton motor. The Schanckes came with either the three dog type that clamped around a hex nut when the recoil was pulled or the serrated tooth type that has to mesh correctly with the recoil portion. The serrated nut type has different size nuts for Clintons vs Kohlers. Yhe same thing is true for the hex nuts on three dog types. Clinton motors require a different hex nuts from the Kohler type. I did get some double sided Kohler hex nuts made last year. Nuts you could turn around when they wore the edges off the hex nut from use. However. I did not have them heat treated . I never understood why the original nuts were not reversible when they had plenty of thread soace to do that!

8ntruck 8,631 #3 Posted 9 hours ago 4140 pre-hard is about Rc 40. Pretty tough when loaded in impact, too.
