Tgalo 127 #1 Posted Sunday at 01:41 PM I bet this is already somewhere on the forum, but I can't find it. Anybody have a part number for a rear axle seal for a 520? The Toro seal is 22 bucks. Thanks, T

Tgalo 127 #7 Posted Sunday at 05:05 PM Let me ask, if I have a axle bearing problem, are parts available for these things? I have been building transmissions for over 40 years so I'm sure I can do this if I can get parts. Thanks,T

ri702bill 11,310 #10 Posted Sunday at 05:55 PM Getting the hub off first may be easier having the gear oil migrate along under the hub over time... or, it may be a showstopper....
Tgalo 127 #11 Posted Sunday at 06:15 PM Well, the hub slid right off thanks to the leak. It does have some radial play but how much is normal? Seems a bit much to me. The oil seems clean and I don't hear any noise when I rotate the wheel, its smooth. Going to put a seal in and see what happens. If it still leaks, I know I can get the bearings. Thank you pfrederi for those numbers, I'm going to order two of each as I have a bad feeling. T

If you can feel radial movement, the bearings probably are going to fail. Best to replace before a ball ends up in the tranny.

JoeM 9,634 #15 Posted Sunday at 11:38 PM 1 1/8 axle with a new bearing will have .002 to .003 play
Tgalo 127 #16 Posted Monday at 09:26 AM Well, were going to find out. I pulled the transaxle off the tractor last night and will bring it into work and go through it. Definitely had more than .003 of radial play. Want to power wash it before I disassemble it.
Tgalo 127 #17 Posted 18 hours ago Got the unit torn down and clean. I have a pitted axle shaft but the radial bearings feel fine. Best place to find some good used axles? Thanks, T
peter lena 9,777 #18 Posted 17 hours ago @Tgalo personally always use , super lube , on any metal / rubber seal area , greatly ENHANCES , initial face off , prevents seal face roll / bind , often happens to a dry o ring replacement , ring bind , makes for , a failure , pete
