Maine Red Horse 5 #1 Posted yesterday at 07:31 PM My new to me c125 won’t stay running. When snow blowing a month ago it started to loose power and would barely throw snow. It died in the drive way and had sat for a few weeks. I then replaced the carburetor, oil, points, starter and spark plug with now success. It will start to chug very slowly and run for a few seconds with the throttle fully open and the choke half on. It then dies out and back fires about 25% of the time. With the air filter off I can see a bit of fuel sputter out the front of the carb. I feel like I’m over my head now and have hit a wall. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in sothern Maine who would work on this for me? 1
SylvanLakeWH 30,557 #2 Posted yesterday at 07:52 PM First things first... Is it getting fuel? Check the gas cap. It needs to vent. Try starting it with cap off. Is there a fuel filter? If yes, check it for crap... I'd replace entire fuel line and put new fuel filter in. Take fuel line off carb and try starting it. Is fuel spurting out? If yes, good. If not - fuel isn't getting to carb. Could be blocked fuel line, pump, or clogged petcock valve screen. 2
ri702bill 11,232 #3 Posted yesterday at 07:53 PM Welcome! This sounds fuel related, as in lack of fuel. Try backing off the gas tank cap. If the vent is plugged, you get that symptom..

Rare, but it happens. As mentioned, pull the line to the carb, pull he coil wire and crank it over. Fuel should spurt once each revolution....
Maine Red Horse 5 #6 Posted yesterday at 08:17 PM When I pull the fuel line off the carb and turn the key it pumps out plenty of fuel.
squonk 45,459 #7 Posted 23 hours ago When you crank it over, does it sound normal or does it sound like it's spinning a lot faster?

A stuck float valve will cause that. Where did you get the carburetor that you used to replaced the first one?

When you re0place multiple parts at the same time and have poor results it is difficult to say "this is it." Start with the ignition timing, the video below will guide you through the process .Before you do the timing I would replace the condenser too 2
peter lena 9,755 #10 Posted 5 hours ago @Maine Red Horse regularly refer to recovering an engine stage , WITH A SEPERATE GALLON OF HEAVILY TREATED FRESH FUEL , drop carb bowl , like a fuel filter just before it , also fuel check valve , transparent fuel hose , you can see clean fuel holding up to carb , always take advantage of change , fuel hose breakdown is very common , been adding ounce or two of STA BIL , to every tank top off . have had zero fuel hose debris , for years , never leave a tank empty , always top of after use . modifications / changes I have made over the years , eliminated / stopped repetitive issues . realise this is a real challenge to many . very often simple / easy . makes me think of a rusty choke / throttle cable , sounds like a hack saw blade on threaded wire ? this is a great place to improve on / simple / easy too . you want penetrant to run out other end , also touch up any related , linkage / lever area , have also added light extension springs to my pull point / cable pull ? always pulling to close ? assists you at every setting , dare to experiment , it works , pete
