Old Dave 0 #1 Posted September 30, 2009 Where is the voltage regulator located on a 1985 model 312-8? I looked last night and could not find it anywhere. It is a 12 HP horizontal Kohler but I don't think Kohler would hide it under the blower housing. It's a model 21-12K801 and I found a parts breakdown on Toro's website but I didn't see it shown anywhere on any of the drawings. The one on my 69 Charger 10 has died and I was going to use the one on the 312-8 to troubleshoot before I spend the money for a new regulator. Thanks, Dave
Duff 206 #2 Posted September 30, 2009 Dave, on my '87, '88 and '89 312's, it's bolted to the side of the blower housing right beside the carb - so close that I have to take the connector off it to get at one of the carb bolts to service the carb. Don't know about the '85, but this might be a place to look? Duff EDIT: Dave, I just realized mine are all Magnum engines. Your '85 may have a K-series, and I don't know anything about the electrics on those. Perhaps someone with more knowlege can chime in here, please?
Old Dave 0 #3 Posted September 30, 2009 Duff, Yes it is a K301. I know what it looks like because I found a photo of it on the web. I have the Kohler service manual which shows it also, but just cannot find the darn thing. Dave
MaineDad 87 #4 Posted September 30, 2009 Take some pictures of your engine, post them here, and we'll help you find it. On my old K341S, it was in the back of dash/tower.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #5 Posted September 30, 2009 The '85 and '86 312 models (and a few others) do not have a voltage regulator/rectifier. They have a 3 amp non-regulated charging system and a separate 70 watt (I think) lighting coil.
