GT-14 Hydro Gear problem

Recommended Posts

Doug B

Hey guys, I have a GT 14 that I put a new hydro on because the original was shot, would hardly even pick up the deck or hitch. Replaced with the one off of ebay and it worked great. Strong hydraulics and would cut circles around my newer cub. I was mowing one day and felt a shudder and tractor slowed down to 4-5 mph like the cub. Eventually tractor quit moving all together but the hydraulics are still very strong. Hitch will pick up anything you put on it. I've already checked the tow valve and the throw on the directional lever. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Can you push the tractor with the tow valve closed?

Lift means the Charge pump is working OK.  Mark the axle ends make sure the axles an wheel are turning together .  no sheared woodruff key on the axle.

No sheared keys or anything, but to be honest I don't know the difference between the charge pump and the actual trans drive unit. Swash plate and pistons are working free also when I opened it up and I did not take out the pistons or move them in their bores. Thanks for the quick reply. And no you can not push it with the valve closed.

Check forward and reverse valves springs are known to break. One of are vendors have them. Clean and check valve bore and piston for smooth operation

Charge pump operates the lift and feeds the actual drive pump.  You have a hydro gear so the is only one swash plate.  When you move the motion control its shaft tilts the swash plate. It is when it is tilted that it generates the high pressure needed to drive the hydro gear motor.  Check the shaft that the motion control is mounted on.  Does the shaft turn with the arm? (#53/4)

Yep, I bought those from a vendor up here and replaced them when I put the replacement on and they are still good. From the info earlier it sounds like the plug loose/falling out. It went from awesome to nothing in a very short time. Looking forward to pulling it down to see and will post back what I find. This thing has had me pulling out what little hair I have left, lol.

Take a close look at the nylon cam plate, may be  mater of not moving your direction/sped control shaft # 52 far enough if it has cracked.
