What other linkage to check?

Recommended Posts

In messin' with the PTO, I noticed the plate the rod attaches to is moving up & down about 1.4 inch. I assume this plate should be tight enough to barely slide? Since she's been neglected badly, are there any other linkages on the 312-8 I should check to make sure they can be adjusted?

Remove the belt guard and check the clutch linkage and pulley. The bearings in that pulley take a beating.

Also check the brake linkage to be free and move easily.

On a heavily used/badly treated tractor, the clutch pulley cross-shaft, and the frame hole it passes through, can wear significantly--especially on the belt side.

Remedies include building up and reshaping the worn shaft as well as adding a bushing after drilling the wallowed hole to a larger round dimension.
