855project 37 #1 Posted January 1 My nephew and I displayed at the Badger Steam and Gas show this year, he went into the swap meet unattended and came back with this 855 horse, I'm not the best documentor and we have it partially torn down now, but after using the site to get the wiring and voltage regulator sorted out I figured maybe you guys would like to see what we are up to. 3
ri702bill 10,894 #2 Posted January 1 Welcome! Making a puller?? A couple of items to consider... That has the rear flip-up seat pan - be SURE the latch is functioning properly and stays closed. Once it flips up with you on it, you'll understand why they no longer make them that way!!! Do check the condition of the "F" plate on the frame - it is where the Unidrive bolts on. Very common to find severe cracking around the 4 bolt holes... If cracked, now is the time to fix it the right way.

855project 37 #7 Posted January 2 ri702bill it's funny you say that about the seat, we were talking about that when we took it apart that it seemed easy to flip off the back haha. Will have to take a look at the F plate this week, hoping to get some progress the next couple weeks before something else comes up that gets in the way.

855project 37 #11 Posted Saturday at 02:16 AM The short time I've been here the community is already awesome, has me really fired up to work on the wheelhorse, the next couple days I'll have some updates, when I get a few minutes to work on some stuff. What is your guys go to source for voltage regulators? Mine is the style with the little wire coming out the bottom, it works for now but the one if the contacts is pretty burned and I think I'll just get a new one for when we get that far. I would try and use the original if I could. They just don't make stuff like they use too.

I tend to agree with that for most Wheelhorse electrical parts. @855project got pics of the contacts?

855project 37 #15 Posted Tuesday at 09:39 PM Got some more tear down done today and another batch of parts through the dip tank, im cleaning them up and hitting with some primer until I have everything ready to go back together. The only think I found that was in really tough shape was the battery tray. Anyone have one laying around they could part with? Otherwise I think I'd just make a replacement.

I don't have an extra narrow one like that. Maybe check with the Redsquare vendors? Or place a classified here?
8ntruck 8,449 #17 Posted Tuesday at 11:26 PM Might be entertaining to put that tray in the tank and see if anything is left to pull out.

855project 37 #19 Posted yesterday at 12:54 AM I can do that, I'm pretty sure it's just rust holding rust together at this point but in the name of science we should know for sure
WHX?? 53,615 #20 Posted yesterday at 04:02 AM I may have the battery tray will look. Love the rubber selection.
oliver2-44 11,133 #21 Posted yesterday at 04:22 AM @855project Just an FYI I love E-tanks like your using, but please have adequate ventilation. The bubbles in the tank you see are hydrogen gas which is flammable.
855project 37 #22 Posted 12 hours ago I can't seem to figure out what the right side pedal does on the tractor, it has a spring but doesn't seem to be connected to anything important, the left side engages the clutch and the brake. Can someone point me in the right direction?

The smaller right side pedal acted as a manual PTO on many models mower decks from 1961 through 1967. Mainly used on rear discharge decks with a cross shaft and bevel gear setups, 32 and 36 inch widths. Edited 11 hours ago by kpinnc
855project 37 #25 Posted 11 hours ago Ah now it makes sense! Thanks guys, I had suspicions of that but never had a deck with the mower. That might get eliminated or changed some, I don't think I'll have a PTO attachment on this tractor.
