Thanks Erik that does make sense. Now that I think of it my boy did mention something about a b hind when he got it. Can you confirm that mine is a :wh: plow? The one in post 162

Also is it safe to say a any plow with a slot hitch is a :wh: plow or were their other brands of 4 Wheel tractors that used a slot hitch?

Differently  a Wheel Horse PP8  the second pick is from a RJ-35 brochure  1956. There was also other manufacturers  that copied the slot hitch hook up but there plows look different.  Here is my 1961 Jacobsen Chief 100 the y copied  a lot of  Wheel Horses designs including  the slot hitch.  Just changed  a thing or two to not get in trouble for  copy  right infringement. Notable things is slot hitch, transmission,  lift lever, front axle.

Been almost a month since my last post on this subject. Sooo what the heck has Dan been up to?? Well I posted some sheet metal for a C.C. that I painted black. After that I moved on to a Simplicity. This concluded the most of the Simple City side project.

 

Rest of the Cub Cadet showed up, and I finished the rest of that up this morning.

And finally I get to get back to work on my 401 project again. :greetings-clappingyellow:

 

Spent the rest of my day assembling part of the engine. I managed to find as set of NOS OEM rings for this engine. Piston that was in the engine only had 3 rings. The NOS OEM set had more rings than a guy can collect on the first level of Sonic the Hedge Hog. :lol:. 1 in the top groove, 3 in the second groove and 4 in the third groove. :blink: @WHX?? Stopped by & gave me a hand. Thanks Jim!!!

Well I managed to finish the assembly process today. Sorry no glammer shots, I will get some as soon as the monsoon season is over here in Wisconsin.

 

I also got it running although the results were less that satisfactory. :( It idles excelent but it does not take to having the throttle pulled very well. Any amount of throttle and it wants to die. I can coax the RPM up by pushing the throttle open manually but it does not like to stay at higher RPMs. Runs even worse when it gets warm. Messed with the carb, cleaned the points several times with no good results. Pulled the rope soo many times that I have the infamous blister between me fingers.:(

 

So after some head scratching, I'm thinking that I may have a bad condenser. ? If anyone else has any ideas, I'm all ears.

 

As for the condenser change, I'm thinking about moving the condenser out in the open instead of keeping it under the flywheel.

This may not be even close to your problem but I had an 8hp that would not take any throttle hardly at all and had sumin to do with the guvner but for thelife of me I cant remember what I had to do to it but it runs great now. A condenser would be easy enough to swap out with one from a good runner.

If the carb in nice and clean thats what I'd do, as far as moving it thats not a bad idea I hate pulling flywheels.

Sure looks purty, just wish I could get it running right. I spent a fair amount of time trying different things with the engine today, but I just can't seem to get it to run good at high RPMs. Been a while since I've had an engine kick my but like this. I know that I have to be missing something, just wish that some type of epiphany would hurry up & hit me.

Yes it does, in fact it has a brand new set of Kohler points. Also had a brand new Kohler condenser.

Yep but the condenser ... which is brand new ... is behind the flywheel. 

Points which is like most others is right out front. 

He claims he played with everything ... including himself :lol: ... to get it to run right. 

Did you try tea bagging?!?!?!?:hilarious:

I have no idea Dan  but gotta be a a points/ condenser thing. Just don't see how it could be magneto related. I almost think you have two problems that are making diagnosis difficult. Maybe carb/ignition ? 

FYI guys it had a NOVAR  pointless  on it before resto and ran what Dan OK??

I'm a bit too big to comfortably drive a Surburban, which is why I sold my RJ and my 551. 

 

Your restoration makes me question my decision. It looks awesome! :thumbs:
