Found a Couple

Recommended Posts

I know this topic has been around the horn, but I got to get some opinions. Found 2 Wheel horses, both run good. One is a C 160-8 with a blade and ags on the rear, decient shape, looked to be missing a shifter knob. The other, i'm not sure about it is a black hood with turfs and a mid mount grader blade. Both are 8 speeds, running, and with mowing decks in working order, both have Kohler engins on them, they are within 70 miles from home, and my brother ( gwgdog66 ) has 2 weeks off to check them out in person. They are about 5 miles from his house. Figured the 2 blades are worth 3 to 400 by themselfs. The guy is asking $850 for the pair as they set with the decks. Take a look and please unload with the opinions. Thanks Terry

Well here is my 2 cents, I would rather have the 160 than the black hood, but love the mid mount blade, so If I had the cash I would buy both, I buy every one I can afford whether I need it or not in case I need parts, (If it is just that a parts tractor) but those two I would dress them up and use them proudly! I love every one, ugly or not. lol

They are both working tractors with accessories, so if I do decide to get them they will get a good cleaning then we will see. Got to decide though may not last long. Thanks for your .02 cents Brian I do need about 40 of them. :scratchead:

You posted in the middle of the night, but I'm up now, kinda :scratchead: I'd say it's a fair deal, not a great one but if you break it down, yup the blades grader $250 snow with mount $200 16hp running good (just engine) $200+ ag's $150 on wheels decks if nice $100+ each, not sure what engine is in the black hood but looks like a big Kohler so say a 12hp good running $150+ then you have the tractors themself like I said not a bad deal but I'd offer $700 they can only say no, Heck me and my oldest son got him a truck that they wanted $900 for and paid $700 and only had to ask.

Terry, along with the break-downs the other fellows have given you, somewhere I think I read that Oklahoma isn't exactly the fountain of Wheel Horse availability, so if you could get those machines for $600-$800, I'd say you've made a good purchase. JMHO...... :hide:

Would I give that much? Probably not, but I live in Indiana and tractors of all shapes and sizes are readily available. It really all depends how bad you want them. Just like ebay, prices are driven up by demand and location. Duff already mentioned that these are not plentiful in your area and depending on demand, it may be a good buy for your location. The grader blade is a highly sought after attachment and probably would sell for more there then it would here. Dozer blades are dime a dozen around here but because they say Wheel Horse on them, people think they are worth a fortune. The C160 is one heck of a worker and probably earn its keep for you. The B could be resold with just the deck and recoupe some of your money. Looks to me like you could have a good working tractor with 3 attachment for around $500. Not so bad when you look at that way!

Another thing you might want to keep in mind is that what would it take for you to "buy" a grader blade or a mower deck etc? What I mean is, yea we all know about what it cost to buy one off ebay or other places, but you will have to either drive to tim-buck-two (not free) or ship the parts at a cost too.

I have found some items I really thought was a good deal to me, but then I add the cost of fuel or shipping and the deal isn't so good for any more. If these machines and attachments are hard to come by in your neck of the woods, I might inclined to spend a little more than some others who seem to have a more plentiful supply......

SO! I guess the one hundred dollar question is still only worth 2 cents?

tgranthamfd (little brother) :scratchead: ,

I just looked at them. Both run and sound good. No smoke leaks or knocks. Both run through all gears, Hi/Low & Reverse, no problems there.

The C-160, is a 1974 Mdl # 1-0380, it has a 42" SD mower deck in very good shape, maybe even better than mine. Needs paint, and some little cosmetic work and possibly new front wheel bearings.

The black hood is I think and 80 or 81 C-145 the data tag is on the dash under the steering wheel, only two numbers I could make out wer 211 something and a 36.

It has a K 321 engine, the soleniod was covering most of the ID tag. The Mower deck for it is a 36" RD.

They even have the mule drive systems for both.

Let me know what ya want to do.

It's really up to the individual of how much he wants to spend or how bad he wants it. :hide: Personally, I don't think it's a bad deal if you have use for them. :scratchead:

The biggest question here is: What are they worth to you. I don't think it's a bad deal but not the best I've heard of either so it's pretty much up to you and how badly you want them. keep in mind that cash in hand is almost always a good bargaining chip. Flash $700 in front of the owner and who knows??? Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Ok guys, thanks for all of your input. :scratchead: This price is his bottom dollar, and it is what he has in them only. I guess they are now comming home. I'll get some better photos when I get them a good bath. Once again :hide: It just doesn,t snow around here, but there is plenty of dirt to move around. :ychain:

These two machines and attachments are now setting in my garage. Will Munny the GSP has marked claim to both of them :scratchead: I'll get the pressure washer out and clean them up tomorrow for ya Terry.

First order of bidness will be a seat with a back on it. I would hate for my younger brother to fall off loading it in the back of the truck :hide: The neighbor hood kids were about to holler "Fat Man Down" when I unloaded it :ychain:.

Negative. Boots hung in stirup, and was able to do several setups to get back upright. :ychain:
